Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. —1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Love Day is here and what better way to celebrate than to talk about special occasion style, am I right?
As we get older, our friends and family will start settling down. And with that, you’ll be invited as a guest to engagement parties, weddings, and/or special occasions more often.
To be prepared, we all need to have items in our wardrobes we can wear time and again, especially for special occasions.
Might as well be ready if you know the invites are going to happen more often, right?
Sadly, that was not the case for me a few weeks ago.
I was not ready because I didn’t know what to wear to an engagement party as a guest.
Although I knew my friend’s surprise engagement party was coming months in advance, I waited too long to place orders for what I would wear.
And with the recent ice storm, my orders didn’t arrive on time. Actually, one package still hasn’t arrived!
I ended up running out the morning of the surprise engagement party to look for a dress. And to my surprise, there was hardly any inventory at the stores I visited in person!
By the grace of God, I was able to find the dress and put together this outfit at the last minute with a cape blazer and accessories I already owned and arrived at the party on time too!
In today’s fun article, I wanted to share some style tips and provide you with some outfit inspiration on what to wear to an engagement party as a guest! Of course, this inspiration can apply to weddings and special occasion events as well!
DO NOT WEAR WHITE
Unless it’s a party with an all-white dress code, do not wear white to an engagement party. It’s the bride-to-be’s moment and doing so is just disrespectful.
CHOOSE APPROPRIATE OUTERWEAR
If it’s cool and your dress is sleeveless, try a cape blazer to add interest and a bit of warmth. However, if it’s cold, try a crop fur coat, or an oversized fur coat to stay warm!
HAVE FUN WITH YOUR ACCESSORIES
Whether it’s lace, sequins, feathers, or a rhinestone handbag, add some texture for a fun vibe! For shoes, there’s nothing wrong with a bit of embellishment to dress up your look a little. However, keep your jewelry on the minimal to classic side and you’ll be good to go!
Speaking of, here are some dresses, handbags, shoes, and jewelry I’d add to my wardrobe so I can mix and match them for future weddings and other special occasions.
