“Health is adding a level of intention to every area of your life.” —Miranda Anderson
It’s been awhile since I last spoke about my health struggles, so I thought I’d share an update and do it for accountability purposes.
The last time I talked about my health, I talked about some major struggles I was going through privately. I mean, how useful would I have been if I couldn’t share my experience to help someone else?
My injuries from my car accident in 2016 had beat down my positive spirit. My physical energy took a plunge, I was constantly exhausted, was very unmotivated to do anything and even struggled with anxiety.
For someone whose branding is all about working hard at health, life and business, I was a big fat mess.
Well, great news! My health is on the upswing despite a bumpy road last month!
So, here’s what I did as part of my plan of getting back on track on my personal health journey:
REST
I’m so happy to say that I’ve found my magic number in terms of sleep! In order for me to feel my best, I have to sleep a minimum of seven hours. If I get between five or even six and a half hours, I’m functioning, but not focused. Less than five hours, I’m a zombie and can’t remember conversations for the life of me!
Now, the goal for this coming year is to be in bed around 11pm, midnight the latest. Considering church events and new projects coming over the horizon in 2018, I’m going to try my best to get seven hours of rest to stay on top of my game.
FOOD
This is an area I still struggle with. Not that I’m eating terribly, but I’m not eating as clean as I should. It’s okay. I’m using the excuse of #ButItsTheHolidays so I’m covered for the next few weeks, haha! After that, I have no excuses. For reals.
I’ve learned that for food, I have a hard time finding healthy snacks that are easy yet aren’t granola bars or snacks of the like. I get bored very quickly, so I’m on the hunt for great snack ideas I can mix things up. Pinterest, I’m relying on you! I also did a week of alkaline eating in October/November. My energy soared during that week of alkaline-only foods so I plan on doing it at least once a month.
EXERCISE
It’s been hard pushing past what happened to me last year, but I’m taking it day by day. I signed up for a gym membership at Body Mountain, that’s owned by my friend, Reidland and it’s been such a great thing in my life!
I figured I’d support a young American entrepreneur (inside joke) while having a nice bit of pressure since Reidland goes to the same church I do, ha! He’s been a great support, his workouts are challenging and I always walk away feeling like I pushed myself to the max.
No matter where you’re at on your health journey, staying on the right path takes a lot of mental strength. Can’t do the work without the right mindset! That and having a great pair of kicks (that are on sale too!) you love and a motivating workout playlist makes the road to success a bit easier!
What food are you looking forward to most this Christmas? I love mashed potatoes myself. Wishing you a fantastic Wellness Wednesday!
