Being rich is having money. Being wealthy is having time. —Margaret Bonnano

Welp, it’s been a little over a year and 12 days since I did the unthinkable: I quit my corporate day job…of 13 years. And did it with no plan.

Whoa, even a year later, it feels weird to even type all of that out.

However, I’m not going to dive deep into details — that’s definitely coming, but at a later time.

This past spring, I talked about the gift of starting over. In this article, I wanted to chat a little bit about living a life so rich, that it’s on a wealthy level.

But first things first, some questions/realizations…

WHAT DID ‘RICH’ MEAN TO ME GROWING UP?

Like most of you, I grew up thinking being ‘rich’ was all about having a lot of money to buy clothes/shoes/bags, eat at fancy restaurants, and go on vacations.

After spending nearly one and a half decades servicing that exact type of rich people, my definition of ‘rich’ became drastically different.

WHAT DO I KNOW ABOUT BEING RICH NOW?

Before, I just watched the rich living their rich lives. I knew nothing about being truly rich. Until now.

Now, being rich means having time. The time to not only to be rushed, but to never be rushed.

The luxury of having coffee or a meal with friends/family so leisurely and not having to look at my watch?

How about taking a walk without taking a call on my walk?

Or being able to drop everything and be by a loved one’s side should they need me?

True wealth is booking flights and leaving for Italy on a random Tuesday at mid-morning because I don’t want to rush to the airport during the early morning hour.

These examples are not only rich, but a different level of wealth!

Please note that when I’m speaking about this type of wealth, I’m not including a spouse/children in the picture, but do believe all the above can truly happen if you have a family too!

NOW THAT I KNOW, WHAT NEXT?

Now that I know having time freedom is truth wealth, what next?

The next step is to do an audit to see what worked/didn’t work before, evaluate what needs to change, and make a plan in order to take action to gain time freedom!

NO ROOM FOR FEAR

However, before you execute said plan, there’s two things you should know:

1) the feeling of fear is normal as it’s our brain’s way to protect us from the unknown and 2) when creating/executing, do not allow fear to be in the room with you!

IT’S ALL ABOUT MINDSET

Lastly, when you work towards being truly rich, your mindset is everything. How you view yourself and your abilities greatly affects your actions and therefore affects the outcome.

Always be in learning mode to renew your mind. ALWAYS.

If you’ve ever believed that money is the root of all evil, it’s a lie. The love of money is the root of all evil.

Having money is a wonderful thing because money gives you options AND time freedom to not be rushed!

Tell me, what does being ‘rich’ mean to you? How did you view it before versus now?

Let me know in the comments because I’d love to know!
