Every summer, like the roses, childhood returns. —Marty Rubin
Summer is in full swing and it seems like everyone always looks forward to it, at least with my circle of friends.
Even though I was born and raised in Texas and still live here, summer is definitely not my favorite season of the year. What’s there to really love? It’s hot. The mosquito population is grows rapidly. Your electric bills are high.
And not to mention, us Texans have to start our cars at least 15 minutes to blast the AC before going anywhere. And speaking of, it’s pretty much a requirement to drive with oven mitts. Either that or drive using a few fingers for fear of leaving a layer of skin on your steering wheel.
As with all things in life, there’s always a silver lining.
For me, summer whites, seersucker prints, cotton and linen fabrics, and sun-kissed, barely-there makeup are enough for me to put up with mosquitos and the heat, at least for a few months.
I know many of us are eager to go back to the norm, albeit a new norm for sure. If there’s anything this pandemic has taught us is that we’re creatures of habit. We thrive best on familiarity and routine. And among our eagerness to go back to a norm of some kind, I know many of us, I included, want to enjoy summer.
Most of us are craving to travel with our loved ones and spend some time in nature. After all, summer symbolizes taking a break from our day-to-day. And even though most of us aren’t going into the office, that doesn’t void us needing a true break from 2020 in general, ha!
That said, I wanted to lift your mood with a fun post today! A few years ago, I shared a summer travels mood board.
In today’s article, I wanted to share a summer mood board to get you into the summer state of mind.
One // Since travel is extremely limited this summer, I’m thinking of just finding a linen blanket, throwing it on top of my living room rug, and having a picnic with some strawberries, cheese, and a glass of Whispering Angel rosé.
Two // A must-have of any summer mood board is breathable fabrics. Linens and cotton are my favorite fabrics to wear, especially during spring and summer. I don’t care what you say. No other fabrics are acceptable to wear in hot weather than linens.
Three // This amazing image makes me yearn to go to a spa and just let my body melt into relaxation. And that says a lot because I’m not much of a spa person.
Four // This shot of Leonie Hanne‘s hair makes me want to experiment more with braids. I think this Dior hair barrette is so fun and would instantly pop on my dark hair.
Five // I found this image on Pinterest when I was looking for some shots for my mood board. It reminded me of my Europe trip I took to Santorini where I saw the most beautiful crystal blue waters.
Six // For some reason, this picture reminded me to take time, slow down, and pay attention to the details life has to offer. Image is from Jade Swim.
Seven // Nothing says summer than layers of delicate jewelry. My favorite colors to wear are rose gold and gold. Speaking of, these J. Hannah earrings are perfect for summer. And they’re from a sustainable jewelry brand too!
Eight // I’m not much of a swimmer, but this shot of the sunset, beach, and palm trees just made me miss the beach so much. My best friend lives in Cape May and this picture just makes me miss going to the beach with her.
Nine // I don’t wear closed-toed shoes much during the summer. And if I had anywhere to go, I’d just put on these lace up sandals with a pair of denim shorts, a white tank, and a thick gold chain necklace.
Ten // Nothing would complete a summer mood board without glowing makeup. My favorite is a no-makeup makeup look with just enough bronzer for that sun-kissed look.
Eleven // Aside from peonies, one of my favorite flowers for summer is hydrangeas. My ultimate goal is to have a home and plant them all around in my backyard so I can have walls of hydrangeas every year.
Twelve // I don’t wear a lot of bikinis when it comes to swimming (I prefer one-pieces), but this shot of Audrey Leighton makes me want to start a collection of all-white swimwear!
I hope you enjoy this year’s mood board! We may not know what this summer will bring. However, I hope I’ve inspired you to count your blessings and still enjoy your summer!
