Hellooooo and happy new year, friends! The new decade has started and just like how I like my car, I love starting with clean slates! Before I dive into other content for 2020, I wanted to share with you a few things for you to remember when all the festivities are done and you’re ready to put your head down and work.
As you’re doing a self-audit on your personal growth, health, finances, and/or business, keep in mind the following…
CHOOSE TO LIVE PURPOSEFULLY
Be intentional. I read somewhere this year that when you hit snooze, it’s not you wanting to sleep more. Hitting snooze means you want to delay living your life. Ouch.
Choose to live this wonderful life instead of going through the motions. Make a decision and live a high performance life. High performance living is a choice to live intentionally and authentically. Let’s make this tweetable, shall we?

It’s not only the start of a new year, it’s the start of a new decade. Leave your 2019 problems and everything else you’ve been carrying for the last ten years in 2019.
We all have regrets.
But let me tell you, one of the worst feelings in the world is the pain of regret.
If you’re having a hard time with regretting something you didn’t do, ask yourself, “If I did start sooner, would I be as good as I am now?”
Gives you a new outlook doesn’t it? You’re welcome. Got that from my friend, Joe. Oh, and Joe, if you’re reading this, gotta give credit where credit is due, ha!
Remember, where your focus goes, your energy flows.
FOCUS ON GROWING RATHER THAN THE NUMBERS
Instead of chasing accomplishments, chase who you want to ultimately become. When you focus on your growth, the side effect will be success. Accomplishments are just a side effect of who you become so either way, you win. Let’s tweet that out too, yeah?

CHOOSE TO SHIFT YOUR PERSPECTIVE.
In 2020, make it a point to not react right away. Instead, choose to listen, take a moment, and shift your perspective. The way you approach situations determines how much of your own energy you want to drain.
There’s a difference between reacting (sudden emotions) and responding (awareness of your emotions). When you’re reacting, you’re draining your energy. When you respond, even if you’re upset about something or at someone, you’re not draining as much power, rather, you’re reserving your energy.
DO WHAT’S RIGHT FOR YOU
Depending on what you’ve been doing, be a little more giving or a little selfish this decade.
If you’ve been selfish, take time to put others first. Volunteer and donate your time. Give back even if you’re not used to it and it makes you feel uncomfortable. Growth and contribution brings fulfillment and fulfillment brings joy. So if you feel you’re lacking happiness, contribute more and see what happens.
If you’ve been giving a lot of yourself, pull back a little and take time for yourself. Rest more. Take the day off work. Whatever it means for you to relax, do it. Do what’s right for you.
I truly hope that you become the best version of yourself this year.
My wish for you is that in this next decade, you truly step into your identity and focus on who you’re becoming rather than chasing accomplishments. Remember, your achievements will be a result the harder you work on yourself as a person and leader.
Happy new year to you and yours!
