Summertime is always the best of what might be. —Charles Bowden
Yesterday marked the first official day of summer and you know what that means. Fun and fellowship!
I’ve always dreamed of having a home and hosting dinner parties for my family and friends.
Growing up, my parents always hosted a lot of dinner parties. Adults would be eating and drinking and conversing through the night while the kids scarfed down their food and ran outside to play.
I dream of hosting a lot of gatherings and this time, have my family and friends over. I can see it now: people I love mingling with one another, a beautiful modern tablescape, good food, and music playing in the background.
Since I don’t own a home yet, I thought I’d share one of my dream modern summer tablescapes with you!
As you know, I’ve been gardening a lot, so why not do a garden themed tablescape, but make it modern?
Here are my thoughts behind this modern summer tablescape setting…
THE FOUNDATION FOR A MODERN SUMMER TABLESCAPE
WALNUT DINING TABLE
To me, choosing a beautiful tablescape depends on the color table you own. Personally, I love both light and dark-colored wood. As I own a dark wood dining table, I wanted to create my theme around a similar table.
This lovely modern dining table comes in four different sizes, has a beautiful walnut top, and a matte black apex base. A perfect marriage between traditional and modern!
BEE EMBROIDERED TABLE RUNNER
Instead of a table cloth, I went for a runner to show off the beautiful wood table. With a dark-colored table, I went for a neutral (are we surprised?) table runner.
This embroidered table runner is 118″ so if you have a longer table, it will not work for you. Did I mention it’s also woven from sustainably-sourced cotton too? Win-win!
LAYERS OF A MODERN SUMMER TABLESCAPE SETTING
GOLD CHARGERS
To add a luxe feel, these gold-plated stainless steel charger plates are the perfect base for each setting. Once again, the metallic color will pop on a dark wood table!
I can see using these again and again to elevate any tablescape themes from bridal showers to Christmas and New Year parties.
HONEYCOMB DINNER PLATE
Continuing the modern garden theme, these durable white porcelain honeycomb dinner plates has 18k-gold details that will pair well with the gold charger plates.
BEE SALAD PLATES
To top each setting are these beautiful bee salad plates. With a combination of a honeycomb and floral design, these certainly take the cake!
BEE EMBROIDERED NAPKINS
Adding to the garden theme are these embroidered bee napkins. If you’re all about details, these machine-washable napkins would be a great addition to your linen collection. They are also woven from sustainably-sourced cotton!
MARBLE AND BRASS NAPKIN RINGS
How beautiful are these marble and gold bee napkin rings?! For an airy feel, I’d use pure white linen napkins.
To add some color, I’d go for a solid sage green, green floral pattern napkins or a solid steel blue. For spring, I’d go for French toile pattern or a blue floral pattern.
WHITE AND GOLD PLACE SETTINGS
This white and gold flatware set is just stunning! Use it all spring and summer and take them into the fall and winter for your Thanksgiving and Christmas table settings!
MARBLE AND GOLD BEE COASTERS
Of course, with summer comes a lot of heat. If you’re hosting outdoors, to minimize water rings on your wooden dining tables go for these marble bee coasters.
If you want to back off of the bee theme, these marble coasters with a lip are a great option too.
COUPE COCKTAIL GLASSES
The perfect pairing for your dinner or brunch setting, these wide cocktail glasses with a skinny stem add a great modern element.
MARBLE AND BRASS BEE BAR SET
Speaking of, for martinis, you can either go for the marble and brass bee cocktail picks or a full bar set in general if you know you’re going to host a ton!
HIGH BALL WATER GLASSES
To add a different texture to your modern summer tablescape, these sage green beaded high ball glasses are perfect for water or tea for dinners and juice for breakfast and brunch.
GLASS PITCHER
Hosting outdoors requires a drink dispenser or a glass pitcher with lid. No bugs in our drinks, am I right?
This sleek glass pitcher with cork lid is great. Add a few on the table to ensure everyone can cool off with a cold beverage. On top of that, add some strawberries, mint leaves, and lemon slices to ice water for flavor and pops of color!
If you’re hosting indoors, I recommend these open beaker glass pitchers to add a modern vibe.
DETAILS OF A MODERN SUMMER TABLESCAPE
ACACIA WOOD SALAD BOWL & HONEYCOMB SERVERS
At the top of my list for my entertainment collection would be this beautiful acacia wood salad bowl and honeycomb servers. I can see using this for gỏi gà, Vietnamese chicken cabbage salad during summers or for colorful winter salads.
HONEYCOMB CHEESE BOARD
You can go for a traditional square cheese board or switch it up with this round cheese board and cheese knives set!
I highly recommend ordering dried pears from Bella Viva and pairing them with Cambozola soft blue cheese from Trader Joe’s. Bella Viva also has other dried fruits and various nuts in large party-size amounts.
TAPER CANDLE HOLDERS
One of the final touches to a modern summer tablescape are these minimal black taper candle holders. To me, black accents will always be modern yet classic.
SUMMER-THEMED FLORALS
What is a modern summer tablescape without summer-themed white florals with splashes of green succulents? Use this link to get 30% off your first flower order!
CITRONELLA CANDLES
If you’re hosting outdoors, make sure to have citronella candles to keep mosquitoes away from you and your guests. These ribbed citronella candles are perfect — useful and aesthetically pleasing!
Additionally, another tip I have is to use a rolling pin to crush your rosemary leaves to release its oils/fragrance. Next, add them to your summer florals! Mosquitoes are relentless so put them in bud vases and spread them out. Moreover, you can add citronella tea light candles next to them or float a few in glass bowls to create a relaxing ambiance!
As you can see, I loved this stunning honeycomb collection. If you want to forgo the bee theme, you can also go full floral with this beautiful Lily Of the Valley tablescape collection too!
What did you think of this modern garden-themed table setting? I’d love to know your thoughts!
