Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful. —Norman Vincent Peale
The tree is up, stockings are hung, and that means it’s time to talk about some modern Christmas home decor!
Over the years, as I’ve slow-decorated, I’ve learned that Modern Christmas decor is my style.
And I don’t think I’ll be changing it any time soon.
However, I subscribe to the idea of choosing modern Christmas decor pieces with a nod to classic vibes.
In this article, I wanted to share an updated holiday decor inspiration board I created to give you some ideas if you’re looking to do a modern Christmas theme.
CHRISTMAS DECORATING TIPS
CHOOSE A MODERN COLOR PALETTE
To me, modern color palettes are black and white, monochromatic colors of your favorite hues, neutrals, and/or a mix of metallics. For example, my modern Christmas tree decor color scheme is silver and gold this year. I’ll share more about this in another article soon. I’ve never done a mix of metallics before so I can’t wait to see how it turns out!
USE GLASS ORNAMENTS
Just because the box says, “shatter-free” doesn’t mean your ornaments won’t break. If your budget allows, invest in thicker glass ornaments to elevate your decor. Even better, look for and feel ornaments in person. I love these glass ornaments in which you can put memories inside.
ADD TEXTURES / PATTERNS
For a modern vibe, I go for brass, marble, acrylic, and glass, and if I’m in the mood, I soften it with fabrics like ribbon. This year, I added two white doves near the top of my Christmas tree again to soften the modern theme.
ADD AN INTERESTING ELEMENT OR TWO
Even though I don’t have a fireplace mantle (yet), I have my eye on this decorative antler and will couple it with this faux cedar garland. To bring a major luxe feel, I plan to finish everything off with this brass Christmas tree collar. To me, both are interesting shape, but are modern because they’re made of brass.
SILVER ORBS
These beautiful orbs would look beautiful right in front of a fireplace if you have one! If not, add it to the bottom of your staircase or next to a tall house plant.
BRASS DECORATIVE ANTLER
If I had a fireplace mantel, this would be the start of the show! This unique piece is a modern Christmas decor piece that you’ll use for many years to come.
BRASS BELL
Add a touch of classic Christmas with brass bells. You can hang these on your tree or spread them out with garland on your fireplace mantel or staircase railing.
GLASS CLOCHE WITH BLACK MATCHES
A simple and affordable modern Christmas decor item is a glass cloche on your coffee table. Practical and decorative is the name of the game!
BRASS REINDEER
I own both of the standing and grazing brass reindeer objects pictured here and they look so classy in my kitchen. They’re a bit bigger than the online photos and are high-quality! However, these sold out so fast last year so be sure to check a store location near you if you keep missing these online.
BRASS ‘CHEERS’ DECORATIVE OBJECT
This brass ‘cheers’ object is not only great for Christmas and New Year’s, but if you have a bar cart or bar area in your home, it’s great to keep out all year round!
MARBLE NUTCRACKER
Another modern Christmas decor item I’d add to my mantle is this marble nutcracker and maybe an acrylic nutcracker. I’m not a fan of the traditional ones so these are great. Make sure to use two different sizes.
BOUJEE CANDLE
One of my favorite ways to add to a modern Christmas decor theme is a boujee candle. This green glass candle with the gold metallic label is just stunning next to the glass cloche with black matches.
BRASS CHRISTMAS TREE COLLAR
I had my eye on this Christmas tree collar last year and was too late to nab it during the post-Christmas sale. I love the liquid texture as it’s more interesting than the hammered style that’s more common.
If you’re looking for modern Christmas decor ideas yourself, I hope this article is helpful. I started decorating this past weekend because I wanted to get ahead of the decorating curve. Are you finished decorating yet?
