Be the designer of your world and not merely the consumer of it. —James Clear
The first day of a new month calls for a new article with life updates, doesn’t it? I’ll be straightforward with you.
I miss the old blogging days.
It’s been a little over a decade since I started reading fashion and lifestyle blogs.
People would post imperfect photos of their daily lives and outfit photos were just thrown in for the fun of it, kind of like an afterthought. Blogs were so fun to read because you got to read the rawness of people’s thoughts and get a glimpse into their lives.
And today? Well, today is all about the perfect shots. It’s more important to “get THE perfect photo” than to be in the moment. Oversharing is now “normal” because audiences are wanting more BTS content. However, content creators are also judged if they share too much. Along with that, privacy is a thing of the past if one doesn’t set their boundaries right off the bat.
And let’s not talk about saying things to make other people happy. It’s more important to cater to someone’s “feelings” instead of sharing what we think is the truth and agreeing to disagree.
Opinions are no longer welcomed without a side of being canceled.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m all about aesthetics and love beautiful photos and creative videos. My Instagram is proof of that. However, I also yearn for the imperfect photos, the old way of let-me-tell-you-about-my-day kind of blogging.
While I don’t know if this kind of blogging will ever make a comeback due to social media apps Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest, and Lemon8, I hope to keep it alive at least on my blog.
And I hope to start with today’s article.
AS OF LATE, I’VE BEEN…
WATCHING
For the past three years, I haven’t been interested in any new movies or shows at all. Usually, when people overhype a movie or TV show, I avoid it like I did with Game of Thrones.
Naturally, I always resort to reruns. My latest binging has been with Sex and the City. I’ve been enjoying it as I forgot some of the characters and storylines. It’s been years since I saw this show!
READING
Recently, I finished No Excuses!: The Power of Self-Discipline by Brian Tracy. I also finished Switch On Your Brain by Dr. Caroline Leaf which I strongly recommend!
If you’re looking for faith-based books, I read Winning the War in Your Mind by Craig Groeschel and God, Where Are You? by John Bevere simultaneously late last year. SO good and highly recommend them!
PLAYING
To keep my mind sharp, I’ve been playing crossword puzzles, and a water sorting game on my phone apps.
EATING/DRINKING
I’ve been drinking a lot of pineapple juice. Based on my mom’s advice (who is always ahead of modern-day culture), she advised me to drink a lot of pineapple juice prior to my wisdom teeth surgery to encourage quicker healing.
I’ve also been taking Ova which supports my hormones without the use of hormones. If you’re interested, the link saves you $10!
WEARING
I’ve been wearing my AG skinny jeans, The Bar sweatshirts, and my black and white APL sneakers on constant repeat for all of spring. In a month, my new APL Lusso slides I bought awhile ago will be the star of summer!
BUYING
Since I’ve been heavily purging my beauty drawers for the past month, I’ve been slowly replenishing my makeup bags. I started with Julep, Dior Beauty, and Elevate Beauty as my focus is to support small beauty brands more. I also just got this beautiful rose water Gelcare color from Le Manoir.
My last makeup purchases for a longgg while will be this Gelcare Starter Kit and the Full Collection from Merit.
Not sure when I’ll pull the trigger on them yet, but these sets will be the last beauty purchases I make for awhile as my focus will be more on furniture, home decor, and saving for a home. Speaking of, I couldn’t resist this new Le Labo candle that just dropped.
LISTENING
I’ve been listening to The Spillover, The ItFactor Show, Huberman Lab, Craig Groeschel Leadership Podcast, and instrumental hymns. And this recent service message titled Enemy of Devotion from Pastor Morris’s Simplify series knocked my socks off!
I plan on starting on Blurry Creatures this summer since I heard it was SO good!
PLANNING
I’m planning my move. Yes, two years have come and gone and now, it’s time for another new, fun change! I’ll keep y’all updated because more home content is coming. I’m also planning on seeing an old friend from high school and catching up with her sometime this summer!
Not sure what I plan on doing this year for my vacation, but I’m really thinking about doing a staycation. It’s long overdue for some me time!
LOOKING FOR
Speaking of, I’m looking for a new apartment. I’ve never been this late in deciding where to live next, but I’m a girl who loves to shop. Yes, even apartments.
LOOKING FORWARD TO
Getting my wisdom teeth surgery behind me. That’s all I have to say about that!
LOVING
After a dark winter and holiday season, I am LOVING all the sunshine! I cannot wait for my move because natural light is a top priority!
THINKING ABOUT
Just being my utmost authentic self. I cannot wait to dive deeper into who I am because I’m about to take a course that WILL change my life.
You’ll see me grow and evolve big time and in real time! Will this result me in quitting my day job to pursue what I really want? We’ll see!
HATING
I’m still hating the division I’m seeing online. I also hate seeing real women’s voices being silenced by brands and people in general. Women are being erased and it’s heartbreaking. Where are the real feminists?
SLACKING ON
Want to know the honest truth? Even though I’m moving very soon, I’m totally slacking in the packing department, ha! I never do that, but I’m also aware that I’m very physically tired.
Also, I’m going at a sloth’s pace when it comes to deleting photos to clean up my iPhone’s memory.
STRUGGLING WITH
With so much going on, I’ve been struggling with sleeping enough hours and taking time off of my day job. I’ve been so busy with my family and the demands of my day job that I haven’t had time for myself since this time last year!
I hope this was a fun and real blog article you enjoyed. I’m going to share more real and raw pictures in future articles soon!
No matter where you are in the world, let’s catch up with each other! What’s going on with you?
