When in doubt, wear red. —Bill Blass
For many years, I used to not believe in getting manicures. I know. I know, but this is a true crime story.
Sadly, it’s been at least two years since I got my nails professionally done as well.
Now that the holidays are here, I feel like I finally have time to have a proper mani. However, since a family member of mine will have some procedures done soon, I will not have time to actually go to a nail bar to get my nails done.
At-home manicure it is then! That said, because the holidays are here, red polish it is! Yes, this neutral lover can embrace some color! Well, at least one, ha!
Here are holiday red nail polish shades I’d go for:
NAILBERRY — ROUGE
The perfect bright red if you’re planning on wearing an all-black outfit. Imagine an oval diamond ring with this color if you believe in the red nails theory too! Whew!
LAKUR — CHANGING OF THE GUARDS
A red that’s perfect for every day wear. I think of this shade as the dressed down version of red. White tee, leather jacket, jeans, and a pair of booties or sneakers.
CHANEL LE VERNIS — SUPER LUNE
The classic and vintage version of red. What I think when I see this shade? A European woman wearing this nail color would also be the owner of big pearl clip-on earrings.
CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN — ROUGE LOUBOUTIN
If you have a pair, why not have matching nails? I mean, I’m not wrong am I?
EMILIE HEATHE — THE PERFECT RED
Perhaps the rival red that will give Lakur’s Changing of the Guards a run for its money? Abso-freaking-lutely!
DEBORAH LIPPMANN — MY OLD FLAME
I’m not into red gels, but if I was, this would be the one I’d be trying.
DIOR — ROUGE 999
“The one” I’m currently wearing in the photo. I cannot imagine how beautiful this would look layered with a nail polish mattifier. I mean…
SMITH & CULT— OPAQUE POPPY RED
This shade could possibly also be called “Big Apple Red” don’t you think? I think?

I don’t usually go for color when it comes to my manis as I’m a it-has-to-match or go with the outfit type of gal. But when I do, it’s almost always red.
The sad part is I can’t wear red nail polishes long as it yellows my nails very badly. To boot my nails grow extremely slow so I’d always have to keep them painted to cover the yellow stains. Since I prefer to have nothing on my nails to let them breathe for at least a few weeks at a time, I don’t wear reds until the holidays.
If you love neutral manicures, would you go for a red polish for the holidays?
What holiday red nail polishes would you pick if you did your own Christmas manicure?
I hope to be able to get pampered sometime next month by a manicurist, but we’ll see!
