“I believe all women are pretty without makeup, but with the right makeup, can be pretty powerful.” ― Bobbi Brown
Before making a significant purchase, I’ve always been the type of person who does her research well.
I cannot say I do the same when it comes to makeup though, ha!
Usually, I know what I want. However, I tend to test makeup in person before swiping my card.
And one of my absolute favorite makeup products to purchase is eyeshadow. In fact, it’s also one of the first makeup products I remember my mom wearing when I was young.
In this article, I want to share the best neutral eyeshadow palettes I’ve found.
After months of searching, here are some of the best neutral eyeshadow palettes I’ve found big and small…
Colors: Total of 6 with 3 matte and 3 metallic shades
Verdict: If you’re looking for a vegan eyeshadow palette equal in mattes and metallics, this one is it. It’s also talc-free and cruelty-free if that’s something that is important to you when you’re looking for makeup.
Colors: Total of 4 – all matte shades
Verdict: If you’re looking for an all-matte yet small palette, I think this one is the best choice. I’ve swatched the formula in person and was quite surprised it’s so silky smooth. Maybe that’s why it’s super pricey for the number of shades you get, ha!
Colors: Total of 12 with 9 matte and 3 shimmery shades
Verdict: If you’re looking for a talc-free eye eyeshadow palette, I love that this one is affordable while giving you lots of color options to create various looks. Personally, I wouldn’t use the bottom right 4 shades as they are too dark for my preference, but I think all of the colors are pretty!
Colors: Total of 5 with all lightly shimmery shades
Verdict: If you’re looking for some shimmer, but not too much, this eyeshadow palette is for you. While I haven’t swatched these shades in person, I know Chanel Beauty is good quality. I’ll update this once I get to swatch it.
Price: $50 (non-members) / $18 (members)
Colors: Total of 4 with 2 matte and 2 metallic shades
Verdict: If you’re looking for a smaller eyeshadow palette to create day and night looks, I think this one is the winner. The shades are neutral enough for the office and for a night out with the girls. It’s a limited edition palette so nab it if you really want it!
Colors: Total of 5 with 1 sheer and 4 matte shades
Verdict: If you’re looking for a feminine eyeshadow compact, this one is the winner. I love the gold and soft shape of the compact. What I LOVE even more is that the biggest pan is the base shadow. With past palettes, the base shadow is always the first I hit pan with so I think this is genius. That way, when using an eyeshadow palette, one can finish it in its entirety and evenly.
Colors: Total of 12 with 7 matte and 5 metallic/shimmery shades
Verdict: If you’re looking for the prettiest and most feminine eyeshadow palette, this Ethereal eyeshadow palette is the absolute winner in my eyes. After watching many videos and reels swatching this palette, I decided to wait for a restock. I came SO close to purchasing Natasha Denona’s I Need A Nude Palette, but decided not to because 1) it had darker shades I knew I wasn’t going to use and 2) to practice delayed gratification. I’m so glad I did because it dropped again this week! I’ll share an update on this soon!
Colors: Total of 5 – all matte shades
Verdict: If you’re looking for a darker neutral eyeshadow palette in mattes, this is the best one I’ve found. They also make other color palettes, but I feel you can create nice day and night looks with this one if you’re looking for a wider range of browns.
When shopping for eyeshadow palettes, don’t just rely on swatches from the retailer’s website. Search for multiple reels and videos. And watch a lot of them to get an idea of how the shades swatch. How some people swatch and in what kind of lighting makes a huge difference.
Of course, the best way to test palettes is to swatch them yourself in person.
