Growing up, no one told me that building your dreams was an option. Looking back, I wished someone had told me that it’s okay to strike out on your own and do what you love. I wish someone told me that there are more options than going to school, getting good grades and working for someone else.
Has the desire to pave your own path been on your mind at one time or another? However, you haven’t taken action yet. Why is that? Why aren’t you doing what your heart wants? The feeling to break free is mounting isn’t it? Every day you’re not taking action, the heaviness of your heart gets more and more apparent.
I know. You’re scared, but you know what?
It’s okay to be scared to build your dreams.
I know what you’re thinking. Okay, I’ll work on my fears, but how do I build my dreams if I don’t know my purpose? Let me give you three steps to start with to find your purpose before you begin building your dreams.
First, ask yourself two questions: 1) what do you love to do outside of work? and 2) What are your gifts/talents?
To find out your true purpose, begin by figuring out what it is that you truly love to do. Whatever it is you’re doing in your free time, that’s what you’re most passionate about. If you doubt this advice, I want you to think about this: real passion is making time for things you care about that don’t pay you anything.
Next, ask yourself, “What can I do better than anyone else? What do people tell me I’m really good at?” Believe them because it’s true.
Your purpose is a combination of what you love to do and what you’re good at.
Second, write it down.
Writing down your dreams makes it real. More so, writing down the action steps you need to make your dreams happen empowers you.
Make a list of what needs to be completed. Next, break that sucker down all the way to the easiest steps like making a phone call or emailing someone. In doing so, you’re more likely to be consistent in taking action if you’re not overwhelmed.
Lastly, take action and keep taking action.
Do you know what you’re losing every day that goes by when you’re not taking action? Time. Years to work on your goals, do what you love and make an impact is gone. Time to see the world and make memories with family and friends is gone. Creating moments to be happy and live a life you deserve doing what you love and making an impact all at the same time is gone.
Success doesn’t happen overnight. Just take baby steps and do a little bit each day. Let me tell you, if there’s an ounce of entrepreneurship spirit in your body, hustle. Hustle hard. Important to note, even if you have to do it on the side while you work for someone else, hustle.
You may be one of those rare people who want to change your life, but don’t know where to begin. You can count this as me giving you a little nudge.
Begin building your dreams by picking one of two choices. It’s like flipping a coin. Heads, you make the decision to face your fears to chase your dreams one step and one day at a time or tails, force yourself to work for someone else who is taking YOUR time to build THEIR dreams and live with regret It’s your life and your call.
