These are a few of my favorite things. —Oscar Hammerstein II and Richard Rodgers

The year is 2010. A time where now, as we look back, we realize that we’ve all pretty much lived the same collective lives without even knowing it.

Fashion such as colorful skinny jeans, statement necklaces like the infamous J. Crew bubble necklace, the rise of athleisure, combat boots, and platform shoes were just the start.

And to think, Instagram would launch later that fall!

And somewhere in between all of these nostagic moments are Tieks. The well-known flats with the teal-colored sole we’ve all come to know and love.

Tieks have been around a long time, 18 years to be exact. And for today’s article, as the Tieks team were so gracious to send me a pair to try, I thought I’d share my fun review of these classic ballet flats.

I received them right before I went on my trips so I thought it’d be a great time to take them for a test drive to really give you an honest review!

WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN ORDERING TIEKS

When you order a pair of Tieks, you will get them in a beautiful teal blue box with a lovely ornate ribbon depending when you order them. I’m pretty sure the ribbon/topper depends on the upcoming holiday as well.

You will also get a reusable nylon tote that unfolds into a travel bag. It’s purposely bigger than your Tieks flats as the point is to keep your favorite shoes in them (for me, it’s my Manolo Blahniks) for when you want to switch into your comfortable Tieks flats for the work commute.

It also comes with a compact pouch designed to save you space should you need to take them for travel too!

STYLE

The ballet flat style Tieks offers is a classic round toe. Personally, I hope the Tieks team will look into creating an almond toe as that’s my favorite toe style when it comes to shoes as it can be more modern yet still feel classic.

For me, I could pick any shade of the various color ways they offer, but matte black is a given. It’s versatile and can be paired with any kind of outfit, a key part to any capsule wardrobe if you will.

Here it is paired with my linen and cotton navy blue dress. So classic, right?

MATERIAL

Tieks are made of 100% soft, full-grain Nappa leather. And I’ve found that they have some cushion to them in the insoles for added comfort. The non-skid rubber soles are also a huge win in my book as I’m not a fan of slick bottoms.

Tieks are offered in tons of colors and have options such as patent, prints, and vegan fabrics. They even have cashmere slippers to wear around your home!

SIZING & FIT OF TIEKS

When it comes to sizing recommendation, the brand advises customers to go up a size. However, for me, sizing was off by one whole size. I’m usually a 9 in almost every kind of shoe, but needed to take an 8.

COMFORT LEVEL / SUPPORT

I wore them for a day at my business conference. The fit was tight at first, but as with most shoes, requires some breaking in. I will say my Tieks started to get more comfortable as the hours went by.

FINAL VERDICT OF TIEKS

Even though I’m a decade late to owning my own Tieks, I can say that if you’re looking for ballet flats for work/commute/travel, these are a great investment. They’re classic, well-made, and are absolutely a staple in anyone’s capsule wardrobe.

And if you tend to re-wear the same shoes over and over like I do, you might as well invest in them because #CostDividedByTimesPerWear, am I right?! I’m pretty sure these will be FREE-99 for me by the end of spring/summer, hah!
