I’ve never been one to make resolutions nor have a “word” for the new year. For some reason, neither have worked well for me. What does work for me is having a phrase/motto for a brand new year.
Looking back, here are my phrases from recent years:
2015: Living Life at the Next Level
2016: Progress Over Perfection
2017: Screw it, Do It, and Let’s Have Some Fun!
2018: This is the #DiamondLife!
2019: Heart, Hustle, and Hard Work
2020 is just days away and I’ve been prepping/thinking about the new year for nearly a month and a half. And part of my “method to the madness” is thinking about my motto for the next 365 days.
As we usher in a new year and the start of a new decade, I’ve decided to take a harder look at myself as I set my goals.
And I’m saying this because I’ve never been heavily invested in resolutions per se. That’s not to say that I don’t think setting goals aren’t important. They are. However, I’m more interested in improvement. For instance, instead of setting a target and hitting a certain number of page views on my blog, I’m more focused on the quality of my content. Numbers are secondary to me.
Why? Because becoming a better version of myself has always been my daily and life goal. I’ve always made it a point to ask myself, “Am I a better version of myself today than I was yesterday?” at my day job, with blogging, in my personal life, etc.
That said, for 2020, I’ve chosen “Right for me.” as my motto for the year.
I chose this phrase for 2020 because anything I do in the new year, I want to make sure that it’s right for me. Whether it’s decision-making with my day job to what I choose to do with She Sweats Diamonds to saying no to seeing friends because I’m physically exhausted, I’m making sure everything I do is right for me.
My plans for 2020 is to do what is right for me. Whether it’s resting, going through a coaching program (which I’ve already started on since November), or choosing to focus on quality over quantity by buying luxury pieces, how I work, play, and live reflects who I want to be.
While I serve you, every decision I make needs to feel right for me because then and only then am I living an intentional and authentic life.
A big part of doing what’s right for me is not going along with the grain, but against it. And I cannot wait for you to see where I’ll be taking the SSD community in 2020!
As we close out 2019 with our loved ones, I just wanted to say thank you. Whether it’s been one day or one year, thank you for following along. Thank you for engaging with my content. Every comment, like, follow, and DM I’ve received will never be taken for granted. I’m so thankful for each and every one of you. Your support means the world and I hope our friendship can continue into the next decade!
Do you have a word or motto for 2020? If so, what is it?
Leave me a comment below and let me in on your dreams!
Sidenote, I can’t believe this is the last post of 2019 and this decade. Wow!!!
