Peachy Keen :: Silk Dress Two Ways Pt. II | She Sweats Diamonds

Since I showed you a more casual way to style a silk tank dress last week, it’s obvious that this week’s outfit is going to be a dressier look, ha!

As I was thinking of how to style this silk dress, I cringed at the thought of the sweltering heat we’re still experiencing. I’m not going to lie. I feel like I’m terrible at styling looks for summer. Maybe it’s because I hate summer or the fact that I’m not a fan of off-the-shoulder tops. Whatever it is, I’m usually living in a nice top and shorts just to survive on weekends.

To me, it is hard to dress and look chic especially during the hot summer months. For this post, I wanted to go for a look that can be worn to dinner with friends or a special evening event. I went for white accents to make the outfit stand out as well as give it a summery feel. I purposely styled it with a silk blazer to stay warm while indoors, but also pulled out comfy caged heels to keep the summer theme should the blazer be taken off.

In case you’re wondering, my heels are from Banana Republic. I’m a sneakers and flats girl through and through, but these shoes are very comfortable, so much that I lasted in them all day at my friend’s wedding a few years ago. I got them two years ago so if you’re hunting for this exact pair on Poshmark or eBay, it’s called Laney Lace-Up Sandal

I was back at Clotheshorse Anonymous this past weekend and found some more awesome goodies! A beautiful cotton dress came home with me along with this gorgeous jacket (neutrals for the win!). I’ll be going back again in the coming weeks to find pieces (yep, Clotheshorse Anonymous also has athletic wear) for an athleisure look (first of its kind for the blog). My love for athletic wear goes deep, haha!

I can’t believe August is approaching, but that only means fall is getting that much closer! For this chick, I’m living in shorts, tees, sandals, drinking iced tea, iced coffee and eating ice cream to survive summer, lol!

How have you been surviving summer?

  • Hello, I found your site through M Loves M. 🙂

Lovely pics! Summer is actually my favourite season, lol. I’m in the UK though, so we won’t be at hot as you. We did get up to about 31 degrees Celsuis (about 87 fahrenheit) a few weeks ago but today’s it’s only 19 (67F). I love iced coffee, my favourite flavour is mocha. 🙂

    • Aww, yay! I’m so glad you found me, love! Um, I’m going to forgive you for saying you love summer. I would kill for 87F instead of 90-100F we’ve been having! Um, did you just say 67F?! I’m SO jealous! Yay for iced coffee! I need to try mocha. My favorite is vanilla. I’m such a Plain Jane, lol! Thank you so much for stopping by, love! I hope you come back to visit soon!

      • Thanks for your reply. I can understand not liking summer when it’s so hot there! Vanilla iced coffee is nice too. Hope you like mocha if you try it! Look forward to browsing the rest of your site. 🙂

        • Aw, thanks so much! I love having conversations with readers! Speaking of not liking summer, I got bit about ten times while I was at my mom’s house this past weekend. The kicker? I was only there for 1 1/2 hours! Oy.

          • It’s nice to talk to site owners/bloggers. 🙂 Oh no, sorry to hear that! My skin doesn’t react well to insect bites. I got bitten by some kind of mosquito a couple of months ago and my knee swelled up! Got another one on my arm as well, lol. But that one wasn’t as bad. It’s not too long till autumn now, so I hope it starts to cool down for you there soon! 🙂

            • Aw, I’m so glad! Me too, I like creating relationships with readers/bloggers. I guess we’re allergic to mosquitoes then! It’s beautiful here this week so far. I’m hoping it stays this way because I love fall! Sorry for the late reply, I was trying to find your comment and couldn’t remember which post it was on, haha!

              • Yeah, it’s so annoying about the insect bites! lol. That’s fine, I can imagine it can get a bit hard to keep track of all the comments! 🙂 Glad it’s been beautiful there. It’s gone cooler and more “autumn like” here in the UK now. I’m looking forward to when the trees start to change colour.

                • Well, I spoke to soon because the heat and humidity are back, ha! Please send some autumn weather to Texas! And LOTS of it! 😛
